A Message from President Denise M. Trauth
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I write to you today to announce that Dr. Larry Teis, Director of Athletics, is stepping down from his position, effective August 31, 2021, and will assume the position of Special Assistant to the President for Athletics for one year. I appreciate the tremendous service he has provided to our university community since joining Texas State in 1999. Dr. Teis’ biggest contributions came when Texas State transitioned from FCS Southland Conference, to NCAA Division I FBS Western Athletic Conference in 2012, and then to the NCAA Division I FBS Sun Belt Conference in 2013. Under his leadership, during each of the last four years, the Texas State Athletics Program has ranked as one of the top two programs in the Sun Belt Conference, receiving the Sun Belt Conference All-Sports Trophy, the Vic Bubas Cup, in 2019 for the best overall Department of Athletics in the conference.
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Don Coryell, Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director-External Operations, will assume the role of Interim Director of Athletics beginning September 1, 2021. In this capacity, Mr. Coryell will report directly to me and serve as a member of my Cabinet.
Mr. Coryell has served Texas State for nearly 17 years, beginning as Associate Athletics Director for External Operations in 2004. He is responsible for the Department’s marketing and promotional campaigns, ticket sales and operations, several suite accounts, facilities and game operations, university licensing, corporate partnerships, and community relations. He currently oversees men’s basketball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country, soccer, strutters, cheerleaders, ESPN productions, football scheduling, and the “T” Association -- Texas State’s athletics alumni organization. Formerly, Mr. Coryell oversaw men’s and women’s golf.
Please join me in wishing Dr. Teis well as he transitions to the next chapter of his life and in congratulating Mr. Coryell on his new appointment as Interim Director of Athletics.
Denise M. Trauth
