A Message from President Denise M. Trauth

May 24, 2022

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I am horrified and deeply shaken by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. According to the most recent reports, at least 18 children and one teacher lost their lives. Our hearts are with the parents and families of those lost today, and with the entire community reeling from this heinous attack.

The Uvalde community is close to home for Texas State University. We have numerous students from Uvalde and alumni living in the region. Sul Ross University, a fellow institution in The Texas State University System, has a campus in Uvalde and our thoughts are with all in our TSUS family who have been impacted. We are truly heartbroken about this tragedy.

Students, faculty, and staff who need support are encouraged to reach out to loved ones and contact university resources such as the Counseling Center and the CARE Center in the Dean of Students Office.

On behalf of our university community, we send our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and the Uvalde community.

Sincerely,

Denise M. Trauth
President
