A Message from President Denise M. Trauth

May 26, 2022

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

As many of you know, Dr. Barbara Breier, Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the Texas State University Development Foundation, is retiring after more than 10 years of tremendous service to our university, effective May 31, 2022. Please join me in wishing her well as she begins the next chapter of her life.

Dr. Lisa Lloyd, Vice President for University Administration, will chair the national search for her replacement. Although I believe that Dr. Breier is irreplaceable, I am confident that this search process will yield a strong, well-qualified leader for the Division of University Advancement.

As we complete the search process to fill this critical position, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Dan Perry will serve as the Interim Vice President for University Advancement, effective June 1, 2022.  Dr. Breier will stay on as Executive Director of the Texas State University Development Foundation. Dr. Perry and Dr. Breier will continue in these capacities, respectively, until a permanent replacement is hired.

Dr. Perry has served Texas State for more than 10 years in different leadership roles within the Division of University Advancement. Currently, Dr. Perry is Associate Vice President for University Advancement, where he is responsible for planning and execution of the NEXT IS NOW fundraising campaign to support the university’s strategic plan. Prior to joining Texas State, Dr. Perry worked for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund in many roles, including Chief of Strategic Initiatives, where he led organizational planning and assessment, alumni engagement programming, and development of new initiatives and partnerships for college access and retention programming nationwide. Dr. Perry received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, Master’s in International Administration from the University of Denver, and Ph.D. in Adult, Professional, and Community Education from Texas State.

The Division of University Advancement does vital work in supporting Texas State’s goal of national research university recognition by increasing awareness and promoting positive impressions of Texas State among stakeholders and on a national stage, and by increasing philanthropic contributions to Texas State through alumni relations, development, and media relations. I am thankful to my colleagues in the division for their commitment, hard work, and dedication. I recognize this time of transition can be challenging, and I appreciate their patience, involvement, and engagement as we find the perfect candidate to fulfill the role of the next Vice President for University Advancement.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Perry to this interim role.

Sincerely,

Denise M. Trauth
President
